Education
David Mason graduated from John S. Battle High School in 2006, initially planning on going into Graphic Design or Physical Education.
Having received a full scholarship to Virginia Highlands as a Washington County Community Scholar, David then attended Virginia Highlands Community College. David graduated with an Associate's Degree in General Studies in May of 2009, and then decided to pursue a BA in Mass Communications/Journalism at East Tennessee State University.
While at ETSU, he began to work for the East Tennessean and also held office in the ETSU branch for the SPJ (Society of Professional Journalists).
David also created his own website while in his second semester at ETSU known as Airship Over Water. Airship Over Water is a website that serves as a host for the various articles and reviews he would do about video games, comics, movies, traveling, and various other topics. He saw a large amount of growth with AOW -- and the website has since been recognized by professional gaming sites such as GoNintendo and Nintendo World Report.
David became employed by G2K Games in January of 2010, serving as a manager at the Johnson City location, and also agreeing to write for the G2K website and official Facebook pages.
In the summer of 2010, David applied to participate in a study abroad program in South Korea. He was accepted to Keimyung University in Daegu, and attended the university in early 2011, becoming the first ETSU student to study in South Korea. While there, he took classes towards his B.A. at ETSU. He also taught an English-conversation class on campus, worked with elementary schools in Korea with the Cross Culture Awareness Program, and was also published in the Keimyung Gazette, becoming the first ETSU journalism student to have an international byline.
In the fall of 2011, he worked as intern for 'Globetrotters Travel Community' through Off The Grid Excursions. He wrote articles for their traveler's resource website, as well as working on the company's DIY-Guide (Do-It-Yourself Travel) in Munich, Germany.
He was a volunteer in the ETSU International Buddy Program during his senior year, helping incoming international students settle into their new school life.
David graduated from ETSU in May of 2012 receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (Mass Communication). In the same month, David was notified that he was a recipient in the 2012 KGSP (Korean Government Scholarship Program) -- being selected as 1 of over 200 international students from around the world. He studied at Sungkyungkwan University, participating in the Sungkyungkwan Language Institute (hosted by the KGSP), which helped prepare him for his graduate school program (taught entirely in Korean). While pursuing his Master's Degree in Physical Education at Keimyung University, he received a job from the multinational company "TaeguTec" working in their Logistics Department, where he currently works full time.
David is a fan of hiking, mountain biking, weight training, and enjoys studying health and nutrition. David is also a huge soccer fan, having played since he was old enough to walk, and has served as a youth soccer coach for the Bristol Soccer Association in the past.
